News World Asia 2002 Session Reports

The second annual News World Asia closed in Singapore on August 2 after three days of vital discussion of the region’s most pressing issues.

Leading politicians and journalists from India, Pakistan, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, East Timor, Australia, New Zealand met to debate a wide range of topics, with the continuing crisis in Afghanistan as a recurring theme.

Other major sessions concentrated on such matters as the thriving Indian market, the challenges of reporting the developing world fairly, and what the Chinese media is doing to prepare for the 2008 Olympics and China’s entry into the World Trade Organisation.
