CyberPitch - Call For Submissions

  • Attention: Digital Content Creators.

  • Wanted: Great new media concepts.

  • Need Development Funding?

  • CyberPitch is the forum for you.

But nextMEDIA has a twist. We will give preference to projects that can be co-produced: for example, Canada with the UK or France, Singapore with Australia or New Zealand, you decide. We want you to think big and suggest partners or even submit your ideas together as collaborators. If you need to find an international partner, check out the Delegate list for nextMEDIA shortly before the submission deadline.

What is a CyberPitch?

If you have a convergent idea that uses multiple platforms (one of which must be a television program,) and includes interactivity, creativity and originality, then CyberPitch is the right opportunity. Pitch your idea to people who can help make it happen and win $5,000.00 in development funding from the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. Other prizing is noted below.

Veterans as well as emerging new media producers are invited to apply for this unique opportunity. We are looking for innovative and dynamic new media concepts that push the boundaries of interactivity to enhance a television program experience. The project must be multi-platform with a new media component delivered by a platform such as interactive television, wireless, web sites, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

How is it judged?

The CyberPitch judges will be looking for high quality projects that are achievable, innovative and make best and most appropriate use of each medium that is used.

All submissions sent to nextMEDIA will be reviewed by the CyberPitch jury and three finalists will be chosen to pitch their projects at nextMEDIA on October 25th, 2003. CyberPitch finalists will be guided in their preparation for their pitch. The chosen finalists will publicly pitch their projects in person at the Festival to the CyberPitch jury - a panel of new media experts - who will ask questions about each project's content, technology, and proposed marketing and business plans. One of the pitchers must be present to face the CyberPitch jury but other partners may be linked to the presentation by internet. Following the pitching event the winning CyberPitch will be selected and the prize money from the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund will be presented.

What are the prizes?

The CyberPitch winner will receive up to $5,000.00 in development funding as well as complimentary registration to the next CyberPitch venue. The New Media Institute at the Banff Centre will offer post-Festival mentorship as well as an opportunity to attend the Banff New Media Institute's Interactive Screen Program. There will be chances to win a full scholarship covering registration and accommodation. Subject to available resources, the Banff New Media Institute may offer the winners who excel at Interactive Screen the opportunity for prototyping collaboration.

What other CyberPitches are there?

nextMEDIA - the International New Media Festival has partnered with the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund and with the Banff Centre's New Media Institute to be one of three Festivals presenting CyberPitch each year. The other two are Hot Docs and the Banff Television Festival. The CyberPitch program creates potential for innovative new media projects to receive support in the form of development funding, mentorship and exposure to key decision-makers. The three Festivals joined forces to increase the chance of bringing inventive new media models to market.

Three Festivals mean three CyberPitch competitions and three prizes! Each Festival has separate application forms but applicants with strong projects sent to one Festival that may be better suited to another, would be offered guidance and direction to help refine their projects so as to stand a better chance of selection at the targeted event.
